CMS is launching the WISeR pilot program, which will test the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to guide Medicare preauthorization decisions in six states (New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and Washington). The goal? Reduce waste, streamline approvals, and curb administrative burdens.
While this could mark an exciting step forward, many clinicians are raising important questions:
- Who defines what’s “wasteful” in patient care?
- Could AI deny or delay necessary treatments?
- How can we ensure physicians’ expertise isn’t overshadowed by algorithms?
At Vironix, we believe AI should support clinical decision-making, not replace it. Technology in healthcare works best when it amplifies clinicians’ expertise, protects patients, and builds trust across the system.
👉 As AI becomes a larger part of healthcare operations, how do we make sure innovation and patient-centered care move forward together? Who should have the final say in patient care?
